Artist's Description

"Believe thru the Storm" is an original 30 x 24 gallery oil, gallery wrapped and painted canvas. This painting is especially meaningful to me because as I was painting the sky, it just seemed to take on a life of its own and made me think of how comforting my faith has been to me during the stormy journey we have all been on for the past couple of years and before. It wasn't my intention in the beginning to paint a sky with clouds brewing.
This little chapel was originally built in Mobile, AL and the family that had history with the church moved it to a place on private property near Hamilton, GA. The Chapel is called the Levi Chapel. My friend Mary Lous says" the chapel has no power, no plumbing but plenty of God and it is very peaceful to the soul." Many thanks to Mary Lou Cooper Marth for taking the pictures and for A.Levi for allowing us to have access to this lovely Chapel to capture with camera and permission to paint. Jan Kornegay Dappen is a self-taught artist. She is originally from Columbus, Ga and presently a local Ellijay artist living in the North Georgia Mountains. She is a founding member of the Gilmer Fine Artists Guild, Secretary of the Gilmer Arts Board and Chair of the Golf for the Arts Tournament-New Gallery/Education Center Renovation Fund. She loves painting en Plein Air and serves on the committee to help organize the Plein Air, Art in the Mountains. Jan primarily works in oils but also teaches classes in Acrylics.
