"Sunbathing on the Seine" is an 11 x 14 (before frame) original oil on linen panel. This is a precious memory, as well as humorous memory shared for many years between my mother and me. Since she passed a year ago, I decided it was late, but had the need to put this precious moment on canvas for her and me. I feel she approves. During the 80s, my husband and family were stationed in Stuttgart, Germany. My mother came to visit and we were lucky to travel to Paris alone, ohne Kinder as they say in Deutschland. We grabbed a loaf of bread, some cheese and wine and walked to the banks of the River Seine. After we settled down, and look nearby, we saw this youthful older man about the same age as my mother but older feeding the birds and enjoying sun, his lunch and wine. He flirted with my mother, and she flirted back and I snapped pictures thinking oh I wish I was capable of painting this. We have laughed together and shared that moment many times over the past years. We were shock...

Jan Kornegay Dappen is a self-taught artist. She is originally from Columbus, Ga and presently a local Ellijay artist living in the North Georgia Mountains. She is a founding member of the Gilmer Fine Artists Guild, Secretary of the Gilmer Arts Board and Chair of the Golf for the Arts Tournament-New Gallery/Education Center Renovation Fund. She loves painting en Plein Air and serves on the committee to help organize the Plein Air, Art in the Mountains. Jan primarily works in oils but also teaches classes in Acrylics.
