Hooch - Chattahoochee River - Columbus GA
Artist
Jan Dappen
Medium
Painting - Oil On Canvas
Description
Original Oil painting on a 48 X 30 canvas with a painted wrap around of 1.5 in thickness of the Norfolk Southern Railroad crossing the Trestle between Columbus, GA and Phenix City, AL over the Chattahoochee River. The second car is a Union Pacific car with the image of the American Flag. This car was painted to promote "Building America". Thanks to my beautiful niece Beth for allowing me to use her photos of the river as reference photos. Columbus is my birthplace. My mother used to swing out over the river as a child from vines on the trees. The River has recently went through some major changes as the dams were blown up allowing more white water to move through the Columbus/Phenix City area and allow more river sports/recreation. The city of Columbus has renovated the entire "uptown" section focusing on the river and the river walk. I decided to add a little of my own graffiti on one of the cars commemorating the Year of my High School Graduation. 1969
