Description

This is an original oil painting of my husband helping my mother across a bridge during a stroll at Flat Rock Park, in Columbus, GA. My family used to picnic and play on the cascade of rocks and water when I was a child. The day we spent with my mother was very special, remembering the old memories and making new ones.
Flatrock Park provides guests with access to a biking trail, walking trail, playgrounds, picnic areas, grills, and covered eating areas. Friendship hall is available for rental. Contact Park Services for more information. Many of us locals have been going to This Park for years. It is a beautiful place. But, did you know that in 1909 it was a quarry? The city held a lease on it until 1914. Many of the streets in Columbus were made of rock that was quarried here.
Good Ole Bridge

The Good Old Rock Bridge reminds me of my very own ancient life.
Though covered with moss and lichens, my spirit yet arches to the light.
Perhaps I have settled a little, and in my heart, time has stitched a few cracks,
But I too am still strong enough to carry a sojourner’s weight upon my back.
I admit many of my stones are smooth or loose, the sharp edges all worn round,
And there’s not much traffic anymore; and to some, I seem to be falling down.
Yet, I offer respite to the romantic heart, a place to lean a weary hand,
For though so much water’s gone under the bridge, I am happy still to stand,
Beneath the wide blue yonder, arching over the reflection of my ancient life;
And I look forward to joining the procession, sojourning o’er the bridge of light.
I think this poem describes the bridge perfectly.
