Artist's Description
This is a 30 x 24 commissioned oil painting of the old Baptist Parsonage. The lovely couple that live here now requested the flowers be in their blooming season and their correct colors. It is said that the Methodist build this home in Ellijay, Ga and then sold it to the Baptist for Pastor Holt and his family to reside there. I decided to paint from the view across the street that is on a hill. From this position the Blue Ridge Mountains can be seen in the distance and the old tree with character on the left. I enjoyed painting this beautiful home. I can see why it was often the place for weddings.
About Jan Dappen
Jan Kornegay Dappen is a self-taught artist. She is originally from Columbus, Ga and presently a local Ellijay artist living in the North Georgia Mountains. She is a founding member of the Gilmer Fine Artists Guild,now TAG, Secretary of the Gilmer Arts Board and Chair of the Golf for the Arts Tournament-New Gallery/Education Center Renovation Fund. She loves painting en Plein Air and often helps organize the Plein Air, Art in the Mountains. Jan primarily works in oils but also teaches classes in Acrylics. She has been recognized locally and internationally for the following awards: 2024 - LOBSTERING AT SCHOODIC POINT- 1ST Place, Gilmer Arts Juried Exhibition Competition in May, Ellijay, Ga.
