This is an oil painting done during the Ellijay Vineyard Plein Air Event on June 12, 2015. It was chosen as the "Cartecay Vineyards Vintner's Choice Awards: I arrived early and was able to catch the sun at just the right spot casting a light over the tops of the vineyard and the little bridge that crosses a small stream. As I sat there painting in the cool morning breeze, listening to the stream travel across the small rocks, watching the Vineyard dogs enjoying their special morning time, I suddenly became aware of the serenity of my surroundings, I realized what makes Plein Air painting so special. About Jan Dappen
Jan Kornegay Dappen is a self-taught artist. She is originally from Columbus, Ga and presently a local Ellijay artist living in the North Georgia Mountains. She is a founding member of the Gilmer Fine Artists Guild,now TAG, Secretary of the Gilmer Arts Board and Chair of the Golf for the Arts Tournament-New Gallery/Education Center Renovation Fund. She loves painting en Plein Air and often helps organize the Plein Air, Art in the Mountains. Jan primarily works in oils but also teaches classes in Acrylics. She has been recognized locally and internationally for the following awards: 2024 - LOBSTERING AT SCHOODIC POINT- 1ST Place, Gilmer Arts Juried Exhibition Competition in May, Ellijay, Ga.
