Description
"Rainy Day Ellijay", this is an 14 x 11 before framed oil on panel board painted completely with a palette knife. Last year during Plein Air in Ellijay, I was on my way to paint en plein air (meaning outdoors) LOL and it was pouring down rain. Nobody was on the square but the person with the umbrella, so I quickly shot this picture. I was scheduled to paint at Cartecay Vineyards that morning. I thought if we are trapped inside I would try this painting. But once I got to Cartecay and found how cozy Alease had made the tasting room with a warm fire and her sweet young son sitting on the floor enjoying the warmth, I quickly changed my mind and painted that scene. Later, in my studio, I painted this. I use the palette knife quite frequently in paintings but have not done many with only the knife. It was challenging but fun. Marti, friend and artist painted me painting. It turned out to be a very special day. We both gifted our paintings to subject of our paintings. This painting will be on exhibit in the Gilmer Arts 2022 Annual Juried competition from Jan 7 thru the end of March. It can only be purchased through Gilmer Arts i Ellijay, GA until then.
