This is a 16 x 12 original oil on panel board painted this past winter at my cabin home in Ellijay, GA in the North Georgia Mountains. It is always fun to hike around and enjoy the natural settings at our mountain home, but my very favorite time of the year is Winter and especially when it snows. Our area is transformed into a Winter Wonderland. The Creek is best framed by the snow. You can even smell the crispness of the air as you listen to the energy as the creek rides the rocks. The only thing missing in the winter are the bears. They don't make many appearances this time of year.
Jan Kornegay Dappen is a self-taught artist. She is originally from Columbus, Ga and presently a local Ellijay artist living in the North Georgia Mountains. She is a founding member of the Gilmer Fine Artists Guild, Secretary of the Gilmer Arts Board and Chair of the Golf for the Arts Tournament-New Gallery/Education Center Renovation Fund. She loves painting en Plein Air and serves on the committee to help organize the Plein Air, Art in the Mountains. Jan primarily works in oils but also teaches classes in Acrylics.
