Description
Baseball signatures from earlier days found hidden like treasures. The following research was done by S. Stookey, great historian of baseball. thanks Stookey! The autographs are from San Francisco Giants pitchers Bob Garibaldi and Mike McCormick. Based upon their careers and the city clue on the hotel stationary (The Warwick in Philadelphia) the autographs were most likely signed in July or August of 1962. That is the only time the two players were together on the Giants for games in Philadelphia. McCormick had a nice major league career (16 years; 134 wins- 128 loses). Garibaldi was a career minor league pitcher, with a few cups of coffee in the majors. Garibaldi and McCormick were together on the Giants in 1962 (July-August) & 1969 (September). During those two stints the only trip to Philly came in both July and August of 1962. Garibaldi was a September call-up in 1969 (MLB rosters expand after September 1); therefore, I don't think he would have been with the team on their late-August trip to Philly. Five future members of baseball's Hall of Fame played for San Francisco in 1962: Juan Marichal, Gaylord Perry, Orlando Cepeda, Willie McCovey, & Willie Mays.
