1907 Restaurant and Bar - Ellijay, GA - Historical building
This is an image of my original oil painting on canvas 20 x 16. I began this painting as Plein Aire and completed the painting in my loft. "The Restaurant and Bar is located in the North Georgia Mountains located at the beginning of the Appalachian Trail and tucked into the Historic District of Downtown Ellijay, GA" as described by the 1907 Restaurant & Bar. They offer "Upscale Dining" featuring "New Southern" Cuisine. The Historic Building has been home to many business and still shows the old Ghost Advertisement Sign on the outside wall for Snowdrift Flour. The Restaurant includes the right first floor and the entire second floor, featuring two bars, upstairs and downstairs. Down the street, you can see the Catholic Church, "Good Samaritan". Tucked in the left side downstairs is Kristina Lee's Boutique.
Downtown Ellijay is surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains, where the Ellijay and Cartecay rivers meet to form the Coosawattee. In its beginnings it was a Cherokee village. Later it was Saturday-go-to-town marketplace where neighbors met to trade goods and news. It was the center of many mountain trades and crafts from woodworking to chenille tufting to quilting to whiskey distilling. It includes the Tabor House museum and Civil War library, the home of self-taught artist R.T. Henson, and several historical buildings. Ellijay just loves to have company, so visitors are always welcome, whether they come for apples, crafts, rivers, trails, or antiques.
